Preparing Older Adults for Disaster ********** (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – In recognition of the fact that older adults are one of the fastest-growing groups in the nation, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has focused on preparing older adults for disaster as this year’s National Preparedness Month theme in September. Hearing from county residents about their transportation challenges will be key in identifying the places where infrastructure improvements are needed most. The plan will make recommendations for creating better options for walking, biking, and public transportation in Athens County. The health department is working with HAPCAP and the Athens County Planner’s Office to develop an active transportation plan (ATP) for the county. The Athens City-County Health Department (ACCHD) wants to know how you travel around Athens County when a personal vehicle isn’t available.
